Some of them have been underway for many years, but I didn’t have the time to finish them.

C++ is the perfect looking glass – binocular – telescope – microscope – all at the same time – to investigate how computers work and what they can do for you. It is from its birth, descending from C, intended to control the computer at the lowest level while at the same time giving the program creator an abstract level to think about ideas and express them efficiently.

C++ itself and the accompanying standard libraries have undergone a tremendous development the last decade or more, after it had been somewhat static for many years. It’s hard to follow all the new things.

So that is why the charter for this web-site is “Learning and serendipity with AND about C++”.

Serendipity – what a fantastic word by itself, but what a fantastic feeling, when you experience it. When you go on excursions you may stumble on wonderful facts and insights new to you – that is serendipity! Is it luck? Well, if you don’t go on excursions, you would never have found them! Follow me!

My first programming project in 1972 was working with prime numbers, using Basic on time shared or one of the first desktop computers. I was fascinated with the fact that every number can be expressed by prime factors.

The first series of posts here in 2024 will also be dealing with primes. I still find them fascinating, but I will use them as a playground to go on excursions into the working of my computer, parallel programming and other programming tricks.

My main computer is a PC with an AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-Core Processor running at 4.00 GHz and an NVIDIA T600 graphics adapter. When I bought it in 2022 is was one of the fastest PC for workstation use. I don’t run computer games, but eventually I will get around to using the GPU for computational work, I’ll write about it in this blog. It runs Windows 11 Pro 24H2.

I also have several older computers, currently I have 6, running Windows and Linux. Some of them are 20 years old. Se my Computer Park page here.

I hope you will find my posts informative. If you find errors, have proposals for new excursions, or just plain comments, please comment directly to the posts, or use the contact form on this web-site.

I am currently a retired software engineer who will not stop making software.
